Karate with Gloria: my reflections off the tatami
Welcome to my corner. For me, karate has never been just a two-hour training session in the hall; it is Do – a lifelong path. You won’t find dry theories here. This is my personal notebook where I gather insights on the biomechanics of our body, Budo philosophy, and advice for parents and those just gathering the courage to take their first step. Take a moment, read, and bring into your practice whatever you need most right now.

My path on the tatami
I am Gloria Švetak, a 4th DAN master belt holder. As the first Slovenian WBKA instructor, I have dedicated a large part of my life to the precise study of traditional Fudokan and Shotokan karate. But what truly draws me to the dojo every day are not the diplomas. It is the spark in a beginner’s eyes when they execute a technique correctly for the first time, and the power people discover within themselves. My goal is not merely to raise technically perfect masters, but to empower you through safe and purposeful movement for everyday life challenges.

WHO IS THIS CORNER FOR?
Who are these articles intended for?
The content grows alongside you. Parents will find explanations of why karate is an exceptional foundation for a child’s focus. Adults seeking recreation will learn how the art teaches us to manage stress. For sections who already wear a belt, I prepare in-depth analyses of Fudokan and Shotokan principles and practical (Bunkai) explanations of katas.
Will I understand the content as a complete beginner?
Absolutely. My goal is to make the complex simple. I gladly use beautiful Japanese terminology (such as Kihon, Kata, and Kime), but I always translate every such term into everyday life and modern kinesiology. You need no prior knowledge – just an open mind.
How do I move from the theory I read into practice?
Words are merely a signpost; the true understanding of the Budo art happens with a bare foot on the tatami and a drop of sweat. You will only truly internalize the theory through regular practice, repetition, and overcoming your own limits in training.
From theory to application: elevate your karate
True mastery requires more than just the mechanical repetition of kihon – it requires an understanding of biomechanics, proper kime, and expert guidance. Transfer your knowledge directly onto the tatami under the guidance of Sensei Gloria Švetak (4th DAN). Choose the path that best suits your goals.
